NEWS and ANNOUNCEMENTS

August 3, 2010

Hello again everybody.  Wednesday Kathy and I will be on the road to Minnesota.  I thought I might drop you a few lines before we leave.  Here’s the latest news:

  • Classmate Dick Wallace lost his battle with cancer on July 22.
  • In order to get your bio in the class booklet, we have to receive it by 8-13.  Email or snail mail to Donna Pfeilsticker.  Bios received after that will only be posted on the class website.
  • So far, Mr. Wegleitner and Mr. Leonard are the teachers joining us.
  • John’s cell phone number is 480-406-5364 if you need to touch bases in MN before the reunion.
  • Registration at the dock for the Majestic Star has been changed from 5:30 to 5 PM to allow more time to check in and board before our 6 PM departure.  Please adjust your schedules accordingly.
  • There will be a committee meeting on 8-9 to make final plans.  That will be followed by a final mailing to all with driving directions, etc…

Donna, Pat, Jeanne, Kirsten, Dwayne, and I look forward to visiting with you at the reunion.

John Baumhofer – Committee Chairman

July 15 update

I apologize for not getting to everyone sooner as we have been experiencing a lot of activity processing registrations and updating web pages.  You can check to see if your favorite classmate is registered on the “Reunion Attendees” page.

As of today, we have 120 folks registered for the Friday cruise and 106 for the Saturday picnic.  The website has 124 classmate pictures and 111 bios.  All of these totals are going up 1-2 every day so keep visiting the web to check for your old friends.  With any luck we should be able to get 150 or more.

Now the not too good news; on May, 30 classmate Phyllis Folstrom Burchard lost her battle with cancer.  As of today, Dick Wallace continues his battle with the same nemesis.  You can check in with Dick at www.caringbridge.org/visit/richardwallace.  Please keep Wally in your thoughts and prayers.

Today I learned classmate Ronnie Johnson also passed away in June 2009.  His class photo has also been posted on the In Memoriam page.

June 9 update

Good Day Classmates,

We are about a week away from June 15 and I think it’s time for an update.  Right now we have 67 classmates signed up for the dinner cruise and 62 for the picnic with a week to go.  The committee would like to see those numbers double at least so keep those registrations, bios and pictures coming in!!

Donna is busy processing registrations and sending me copies to put on the “Reunion Attendees” and “Classmate Bios” pages for your viewing pleasure.  Badges are also being made as registration materials are received.  We have approximately 80 different bios and are always looking for more.  You can check the “Reunion Attendees” page to see which of your high school friends are coming and then sign up so you don’t miss out on the action!

The website is really getting a good work out lately which is making John Boy very happy.  The “Then and Now” page is coming along nicely too.  We have 112 different classmates for you to check out.  Remember, if you can’t email your photo, you can have your daughters/sons send it to me at j-kbaumhofer@msn.com.  The more pictures we have, the less we will have to squint to see who we are talking to. HA!  As a last resort, you can send me your picture in the mail at 16660 S. 37th PL in Phoenix, AZ 85048.  I’ll scan it in and return the photo to you pronto.

So how do you like the videos?  They are getting views too.  New videos are available and will be posted soon so keep an eye out for them.

Some teachers have also been invited.  Mrs. Branes/Ness has responded and unfortunately will not be able to attend due to previous commitments.  We have yet to hear from Mr. Leonard, Mr. Nelson, Mr. Stewart, Mr. Wegleitner, Mr. Sahli, Mr. Brobin and Mr McManus.  It would be nice to see them all again, but remember they are mostly in their 80’s.  We shall see.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank your committee for all the hours they have and are putting in to make this our best reunion ever.  Thanks Donna, Pat, Dwayne, Jeanne, and Kirsten.  We couldn’t do this without you folks.  Thanks also to those of you have volunteered with phone calls, lending year books, helping to find classmates, and too many other things to mention.  There are too many of you to get on this memo, but I am keeping a list for the reunion later.  Again, many thanks to all.

We are down to two months and 19 days until we kick off the big event.  We hope to see all of you then.

Cheers,

On behalf of the reunion committee

John Baumhofer

REGISTRATION

We have added an additional page entitled “Registration Forms” to help with registration if you are having problems opening the forms we sent earlier. There are two sets of instructions for sending your materials to Donna at momsticker@aol.com.  Thank you.

May 8 update

Looks like I forgot something in my earlier memo.

Canned beer and wine will be allowed in the pavilion area during the Saturday picnic, but it can’t be served in glassware and can only be consumed in the pavilion area as stated in the Long Lake Pavilion Policy, Article #10 and on the first page of the Administrative Policy Directive.

Happy Mother’s Day to all you moms.

May 2010 Reunion Update

Hello Classmates,

We are now into May and I thought an update would be in order.  So far, we have had responses from 40 or so classmates.  Some of our early bird registrations include Don Wagner, Doug Jenness, Linda Miller, and Kathy Swenson.  There’s plenty of room left so be sure to send your registration form, bio, and picture to Donna Faucett Pfeilsticker  at momsticker@aol.com as soon as you can.

Soon we will start compiling the reunion booklet.  We will use the same format as we did for the 45th reunion.  Your name, address, phone number, email address, and short biography will be included.  Please be sure to let us know if you do not want any or all of your information used. We will not be using pictures and will edit biographies when necessary to save space.

There have been some changes to the class website (www.mvhs1960.com) recently.  There is now a page entitled “Places to Stay” which has information on hotels-motels in Stillwater and New Brighton.  We hope this will help you find a place.  A page entitled “Classmate Bios” is now available for viewing.  So far, there are fifty some bios and more will be added as they come in.  Some of them are old, but will be replaced with updated ones when they arrive.  Finally, a page called “Gym Class” is also ready for viewing.  Take a look; we think you will enjoy it.  We plan on rotating more videos through as the reunion gets closer.

I have received requests to post a page on the website showing who is attending.  The new page is entitled “Reunion Attendees” and replaces the “Guess who’s Coming to Dinner” page.  In addition, I will publish all biographies in their entirety on the website.  To keep the two new pages current, I will need you to send me a carbon copy of your bio and registration information at j-kbaumhofer@msn.com.

There are a few miscellaneous questions that need to be clarified:

  • Casual dress will be the order of the day for both the cruise and the picnic.
  • If you have a classic car and want to show it, feel free to bring it to the picnic on Saturday.
  • We have a beer and wine license for the picnic, but will not be serving any alcohol.  If you want to bring your own beer or wine, you may do so.  On the other hand, there will be plenty of open bars on the yacht so nobody should go thirsty.
  • Our list of deceased classmates does not include a photo of Judy Pogue.  Somebody gave me the name of a classmate that has a photo of Judy, but alas I have forgotten it (as usual).  Please contact me at j-kbaumhofer@msn.com if you can help with a photo.  Many thanks in advance.
  • There have been some inquiries about parking in Stillwater.  I contacted the St. Croix Boat & Packet Co. and was told they have plenty of free parking spaces in their two lots.  The first is near the dock and there is another not too far away.  If you want to be really close, you can use the city parking lot which will cost you $5.00.

Thank you.  We look forward to receiving your registration materials and visiting with you at the reunion in August.
